National Workshop on “Agroforestry and Farm Forestry for Sustainable Land and Ecosystem Management under Ecosystem Management Services Improvement Project”, ICFRE, Dehradun

The Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) organised a two-days National Workshop on “Agroforestry and Farm Forestry for Sustainable Land and Ecosystem Management under Ecosystem Management Services Improvement Project” from 5th to 6th January, 2023 at Dehradun. The themes of the workshop were:

  • Agroforestry and farm forestry practices for sustainable land and ecosystem management
  • Quality planting materials for scaling up of Agroforestry and Farm forestry practices
  • Rationalization of policies and regulatory regimes for development of agroforestry and farm forestry
  • Certification framework and market mechanism for agroforestry and farm forestry
  • Knowledge sharing and learning session for scaling up of agroforestry and farm forestry practices for sustainable land and ecosystem management

The workshop’s key attendees included representatives from the MoEFCC, ICFRE, MoAFW/ICAR, ICRAF, State Forest Departments, the World Bank, owners of certification schemes, industries, farmers, and tree growers.

Mr. A. M. Singh, Additional Director General, NCCF, on behalf of NCCF, gave a presentation on “Standards for certification of agroforestry & farm forestry produces” where he deliberated on the current need of Trees Outside Forests (ToF) certification in the country and then concentrated upon the ToF Certification Standard developed by NCCF along with the standard development process.

The workshop was a significant event that brought together the representatives from the Government, Non-Governmental Organisations and multilateral agency such as the World Bank. It significantly increased the knowledge sharing, developing suitable strategies/ frameworks and providing policy inputs to the Government for addressing issues and challenges for scaling up of agroforestry and farm forestry.
