Introducing the Tree Outside Forests (ToF) Standard: A Landmark in Sustainable Forestry
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our groundbreaking Tree Outside Forests (ToF) Standard, an initiative that underscores our commitment to fostering sustainable forestry practices across India. Endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), this standard is set to revolutionize the way we approach the management and certification of trees outside traditional forest areas.
About NCCF
The Network for Certification and Conservation of Forests (NCCF) is a registered society comprised of experts, professionals, and stakeholders dedicated to developing India-specific and globally benchmarked sustainability standards. Our organization focuses on policy advocacy, training, and capacity building through multi-stakeholder engagement. We are proud to be members of IUCN, GEA, and observers with UNFCCC & UNCCF.
The Importance of Tree Outside Forests (ToF) in India
The Trees Outside Forests (ToF) standard is crucial as at least 85% of India’s raw material comes from trees outside forests, primarily sourced from private lands. In India, ToF is the main wood source for industries. The NCCF ToF certification scheme is the optimal tool for ensuring availability, aligning with PEFC EUDR, and reinforcing our commitment to sustainable practices. This certification scheme will not only enhance the traceability and sustainability of wood supply chains but also support small landholding communities in their efforts to manage and benefit from their tree resources responsibly.
